Mobileye Acquires Autonomous Driving Tech Deal
Intel’s Israel-based self-driving division, Mobileye, has recently sealed a deal to deliver 8 million cars at a European car company equipped with autonomous driving technologies. Right now, the contract’s monetary terms and the carmaker’s identity were not revealed. So far, this is the biggest gig for Mobileye, which also means automakers and suppliers alike are speeding up the launching of features that automate specific driving activities like emergency braking and highway driving—to create profits though the tech has still a long way to go from mass-market deployment. The upcoming system shall be available on many different varieties of the carmaker’s models that will have semi-autonomous driving capability. Mobileye CEO Amnon Shashua said that they’re anticipating there’d be more than 100,000 Level 3 cars with Mobileye installed come end of 2019.
